How many times do you hear from your friends, family and clients that everything has gone wrong because someone else did something? We tend to blame everyone else except ourselves, because we don’t want to see the truth. If we react strongly to a statement, it is because it triggered an emotion. Something said “mirrored” your own personal issues.
When someone tells me I am overweight, I have to face the fact that I put the food in my mouth. No one forced me to eat the food. I have to admit to myself that I stress eat, or as my friend, the psychotherapist calls it “self soothing with food”.
It bothers me to hear every excuse, so step up to the plate and take some responsibility. Acknowledge the error of your ways and then just work on changing your behaviors.
